Mrs. Estie D. Ennis, 97, a resident of Troy and formerly of Brantley, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 24, 2019. A graveside service for Mrs. Ennis will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 27, in Pine Level Cemetery with Brother Jason Hilburn and Rev. Ramonia Smith officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. “Miss Estie” was a beloved member of her community, where she was widely known as an excellent cook and baker. Her pecan pies and lane cakes were much-coveted items. She was also a devoted member of the Brantley United Methodist Church for over 61 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who will be sorely missed by all of them. Mrs. Ennis was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Ennis; parents, James and Elzie Mayberry Elmore; and six siblings, Nettie Everage, Ore Nell Hilburn, Vaster Elmore, Varel Elmore, Darel Elmore and Joe Herman Elmore. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Jeannie Ennis; three grandchildren, Anthony R. (Rachel) Turner, Michelle Ennis (Bryan) Wettig, and Jeffrey S. (Erin) Ennis; seven great-grandchildren, Brady R. Turner, Reese Eden Turner, Melody Rose Turner, Logan Robert Turner, James Philip Wettig, Nash James Ennis, and Edith Harper Ennis; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Josh Hilburn, Alan Carpenter, Foster Carpenter, Jess Sasser, Howard Garrison, and Steve Walker. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to either Brantley United Methodist Church or Crenshaw Christian Academy. They wish to thank all of her caregivers at Nobel Manor, Troy Health and Rehabilitation, and Compassus Hospice for their excellent love, care, and support. Family and friends will meet in the cemetery at the service time
