Walk-off win: Trojans stun Texas State, advance to semifinals

Conway, S.C. – Drew Frederic hit a double in the bottom of the ninth inning that allowed Troy to score the game-tying and game-winning runs to defeat Little Rock, 5-4 in a Sun Belt Tournament elimination game on Friday evening at Springs Brooks Stadium.

Troy (31-28) went into the bottom half of the ninth trailing the Trojans (29-28) 4-3 with the bottom of the lineup coming to the plate. Manning Early tallied a one-out single and two batters later Rigsby Mosley hit a single up the middle that placed runners on the corners with two outs.

Drew Frederic stepped up to the plate and sent the first pitch down the left field line that scored Early then Little Rock’s left fielder kicked the ball which allowed Mosley to score from first to win the game, 5-4.

Frederic finished the game the game going 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, a run scored and three RBI. Frederic accounted for three of Troy’s final four runs scored (two-run home run in the sixth inning, RBI double in the ninth).

Mosley was a triple shy of the cycle as well with a 4-for-5 outing with three runs scored, a home run, an RBI and a double. Chase Smartt also posted a multi-hit game with two hits.

Lance Johnson received the win on the mound to improve to 4-1 on the season, as he made his third outing in three consecutive games. Johnson tossed 2.2 innings giving no runs on two hits with three strikeouts.

Troy will face No. 2 Georgia Southern on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. CT.
