Memorial Day events scheduled for Monday

U.S. Marine Col. (Retired) Ken Faircloth will be the featured speaker at the Memorial Day Service at 11 a.m. Monday at Bicentennial Park in Troy. The service is hosted annually by Pike County American Legion Post 70 in Troy.
Faircloth is a graduate of South Montgomery County Academy and Troy University. He was a member of the Troy’s 1987 National Championship football team.
He is a graduate of the Marine Corps Flight School and served one tour in Iraq and two tours in Afghanistan.
Faircloth was a co-pilot for President Bill Clinton and flew Marine One for President Barack Obama. He piloted 125 flights with the president.
Faircloth retired from the Marine Corps in 2015 with 27 years. He is currently a flight instructor at Fort Rucker.
The names of those in United States military service who died from combat wounds during World War I through Iraqi Freedom will be read during the service.
The Post 70 Auxiliary will place the memorial wreath at the Veterans Monument at the close of the service. Special music will include the National Anthem and other patriotic selections.
Another ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. at the memorial on Veterans’ Boulevard in Brundidge. The service will continue at 11 a.m. at Elam Baptist Church Memorial site in Elamville.
The Clanton Battery of the Mechanized Infantry will fire a cannon salute and Col. Ray Kyle, a veteran wounded in Vietnam, will be the guest speaker.
