Troy man killed in wreck

A Troy man has died following a multi-vehicle wreck on U.S. Highway 231 on Thursday.

Darien Tyreke Ballard, 21, succumbed to injuries from the wreck Friday morning.

Officers responded to the wreck on U.S. Highway 231 at the intersection of County Road 1149 at approximately 4:41 p.m. Thursday.

Two vehicles were involved in the wreck and five people were injured.

Troy Fire Department and Haynes Ambulance Service responded to treat the injured occupants.

One of the vehicles, a silver 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer was overturned on the shoulder of the roadway. The other vehicle involved was a red 2002 Jeep Wrangler.

All injured persons were transported from the scene due to their injuries. Ballard was transported from the scene by Haynes Life Flight to a Dothan Hospital. He was a passenger in the Chevrolet Trailblazer

The other four were transported by ground ambulance to hospitals in Montgomery and Troy. Three of these persons were critically injured and the other was not life-threatening.

The accident remains under investigation by the Troy Police Department with assistance from ALEA, the Pike County Coroner’s Office and the Pike County District Attorney’s Office.
