Come one! Come all! It’s Pawnival Time!

The Pike Animal Shelter will host a dog adoption Pawnival from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at the Troy Recreation Department open field.

Shannon Hudson, Pike Animal Shelter acting director, said from 12 to 15 dogs of different sizes and different breeds will be on-site and up for adoption.

“We’ll have adoptable doges of several ages. For sure, we’ll have lab-mixes and Jack Russell mixes that will make great pets,” Hudson said. “And, we’ll have other dogs that will make loving pets. The adoption of cats has greatly reduced the number of cats and kittens at the shelter. However, we’ll probably have a few kittens at the Pawnival that need forever homes.”

Hudson said the Pawnival will have a carnival atmosphere with activities for kids and, or course what’s a Pawnival without hotdogs… and snow cones. Pawnival fun will include a doggie kissing booth and the dogs can kiss the kid or the kid can kiss dog. The dog kissing booth is not just for kids. At Pawnival, anybody can kiss a dog.

There will be balloons, face painting and a dunking booth that will be fun for everyone except the one who gets dunked.

Hudson said Pike Animal Shelter’s usual adoption fee of $75 includes the rabies shot, the spay or neuter procedure and parasite shots.

“At Pawnival there will be several opportunities for adoption sponsorships,” Hudson said. “Pike Animal Shelter is appreciative of the opportunity to have these selected dogs for adoption Saturday. The Troy Recreation Center is a great place for families to come out, meet the dogs and enjoy the fun of a Pawnival.”

Representatives of the Pike Animal Shelter will be available to answer questions about the shelter and the opportunities for interaction with the dogs and cats.

The “Rent a Dog” program is gaining popularity as more people are “renting” a dog for a few hours to give the animal an opportunity to get outside, run and play, and enjoy the friendship of a friend.

Pawnival is sponsored by it’s fashion, Pepsi, Half Shell Oyster Bar & Grill and Troy Bank & Trust.

Hudson expressed appreciation to the sponsors for their support of the Pike Animal Shelter and the dogs that hope for forever homes.
