The Troy City Council rejected a bid Tuesday to complete renovations at the Park Street Well.

Utilities Manager Brian Chandler said the project would upgrade the well site, the oldest in the city. However, only one bidder responded to the project with a cost far exceeding the city’s budgeted amount.

“We budgeted under half a million for this project and the bid came back at more than $650,000, so it was well over what we had planned,” Chandler said.

Chandler asked the council to reject the bid so that adjustments can be made to seek a contract that aligns to the budgeted plan.

In other business, the council approved an off-premise beer and wine license transfer for the new Dollar General location on Three Notch Street.

The council also bid farewell to retiring clerk Alton Starling and thanked everyone who helped with the tornado cleanup last week.

The council will meet again on Tuesday, May 14 at City Hall. The executive committee will meet upstairs at 4 p.m. and the council will convene in the City Council Chambers at 5 p.m.
