The Goshen Eagle baseball team hosted Luverne for a Friday night doubleheader and dropped both games by way of mercy rule.

Goshen gave up 21 runs over the third and fourth innings in a 26-4 loss in game one and watched five runs come across in the fifth inning of a 10-0 game two loss.

Game two got off to a better start than the first with Goshen starting pitcher Blake Saupe on the mound. Goshen still found itself down 3-0 by the time the Eagles’ bats came around in the fourth frame.

Bryan Galloway’s leadoff double in the fourth represented Goshen’s first baserunner of the game. Following a strikeout, back-to-back walks were issued to load the bases.

Nothing came across, though, as a strikeout and hard lineout ended the Eagle threat. Luverne tacked on two more runs in the bottom half of the inning before triggering the mercy rule in the fifth behind five hits and seven baserunners.

Goshen stays at home on Monday, hosting Monroe County for a one game showdown before a three game series with New Brockton ends the week.
