The Pike Regional Child Advocacy Center is inviting all Pike Countians to consider being Prevention Partners with the CAC for National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Temeka Teague, PRCAC intervention program director, said the partnerships acknowledge the importance of communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect.
“It should never hurt to be a child and the PRCAC is working to protect children, one family at a time,” Teague said. “Being a Prevention Partner is a way to bring greater awareness to the efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect and show support for those efforts here in Pike County.”
Teague said partners may choose to be Pinwheel Garden Partners or Blue Ribbon Partners, both show outward support as partners in the efforts to raise awareness of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
There are three levels of partnership as demonstrated through the display of pinwheels which Teague said are whimsical and childlike.
In essence, she said, pinwheels serve as reminders of the great childhoods that are desired for all children.
“The pinwheels represent the chance of a healthy, happy and full life children deserve,” she said. “Plant a pinwheel garden to remind our community how important it is to give children the opportunity to have great childhoods.”
Pinwheel Garden Partnerships begin at $50 and the partner receives a pinwheel tabletop centerpiece to display. A $100-partner receives 50 pinwheels and a yard sign to display. Those who choose the $150 Pinwheel Partnership receive 100 pinwheels and two yard signs for display.
Pinwheels may also be purchased individually for $2 each.
Blue Ribbon Partnerships are $15 and include a blue ribbon for the door or mailbox at a home or business location.
“The royal blue ribbon is a reminder of child abuse and neglect prevention awareness in our community,” Teague said.
The PRCAC also has T-shirts available Child Abuse Prevention Month for sale for $15 for both short and long sleeve shirts.
“The PRCAC’s 2019 Open House will be at 11 a.m., April 16 at the CAC,” Teague said. “At that time, we will have a proclamation signed declaring the month of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Pike County. We invite and encouraged all of our citizens to participate in some way in bringing greater awareness to the issue of child abuse and the importance of child abuse prevention so that all children can have the great childhood they serve.
