The Pike County Historical, Genealogical & Preservation Society has plans to publish a book on clubs, societies and organizations in Pike County.
Diane Smith, society president, said the book will be the society’s official publication for 2019.
“The book will be historical in giving us a glimpse of the past in what kind of groups were important to our ancestors,” Smith said. “It should be genealogical in giving us the names of the founders and charter members.”
The requested information includes the chartered or formal name of each group, the founding date and person or group and where the first group meeting occurred.
“Also included should be the charter members, the goals or purpose of the group and the rituals or agenda of the meeting,” Smith said. “Past presidents and the leaders’ names should be included if possible. Interesting stories about the group add flavor to the entries.”
Milestones, anniversaries or special events should be highlighted. Mottoes, pins, flowers, colors, pledges, scriptures and interesting artifacts may be included.
“How the group has evolved over the years, what the group is currently doing and its future plans should also be included along with the names of the officers and current members if the group remains active,” Smith said.
“We want every club, society or organization to be included in the publication, however, youth organizations, school-sponsored organizations and church organizations are not within the scope of this year’s publication.”
Smith said the Pike County Historical, Genealogical & Preservation Society will be greatly appreciative of gathered information and asks that plans for the book be shared with other groups.
Entries should be submitted before April 30, 2019. The requested information may be emailed to pikecountyhistoricalsociety@hotmail.com or mailed to Mabeth Gibson, 238 Co. Rd 1101, Troy, AL 36079 or Diane Smith, 675 Co. Rd. 1101, Troy, Al 36079. For more information, call 334-566-5793 or 482-1660.
