Lamar Hays

Lamar Hays, 89 years old, went to be with his Lord, Thursday, March 14, 2019.  He was at home surrounded by his loving family.

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 16, 2019, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Glover Funeral Home, (1468 Hartford Highway, Dothan, AL, 36301).

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Enon Baptist Church, (3536 Co. Rd. 6631, Banks, AL 36005) with Rev. Averyt Walker, Rev. J. C. Turner, Rev. Ben Wesley and Rev. Cecil Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Kendall Glover directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:45 until 2:45 on Sunday prior to service time.

At all other times the family will receive friends at the home of Robert and Betty Brewer, 617 Earline Road, Dothan, AL.

Lamar was born October 9, 1929, in Banks, Alabama.  He farmed for 50 years.  He loved working the land and working with his hands.  He will always be remembered by his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends for taking them hunting and fishing and for teaching them how to pin a cup of water to the wall.  He and his wife, Dorothy, owned and operated Eufaula Florist in Eufaula, Alabama for 15 years.  He carried his love for growing and nurturing plants to loving fresh flowers and green plants. He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Dothan.

Lamar is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy Ellen Sheppard Hays, son, James Hays (Linda), daughter, Betty Brewer (Robert), son, Randy Hays (Sharon) all of Dothan; grandchildren, Mike Hays, Julie Timmons (Shane), Elliott Wesley, Josh Hays (Angela), Jennifer Wesley, Will Hays (Brittani), Peyton Hays, Jeff Stenslend, Angie Roberson (Josh), Clint Brewer, Curt Brewer (Lisa), Kendra Henry (Ross), Aaron Brewer; 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters Ruby Turner and Winnell Peacock.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Grady Hays and Mary Matilda Hays (Maddie); 6 brothers and 2 sisters; and a son Charlie Terrill Hays.

Pallbearers will be Mike Hays, Elliott Wesley, Josh Hays, Will Hays, Shane Timmons, Dewayne Hays, Jason Sheppard and Jeff Stensland.
