And the Pike County Salvation Army in Troy will have more than 400 quarts of Carter Sanders’ Famous Camp Stew for sale and available for pickup on Thursday between the hours of noon and 6 p.m.

“If it lasts that long,” said Kim May, director of the local Salvation Army Service Center. “Those who wish to reserve camp stew at $10 a quart are encouraged to call 808-1069 because it won’t last long. We will have extra quarts but, at our last sale, we were completely out by 4 p.m.”

May said Carter Sanders’ recipe is traditional camp stew with three meats and with, maybe, a secret ingredient or two that sets it apart.

“There’s nothing green in Carter’s camp stew,” she said. “If it has anything green, it’s Brunswick stew. We have camp stew and we believe it’s the best.”

The Salvation Army Service Center at 509 South Brundidge Street in Troy is the pickup point for the camp stew. Extra quarts will be available as long as they last.

All proceeds from the camp stew sale will be used to assist friends and neighbors in need.

“The money will be used to help fund our programs and the money stays here at home,” May said.

She encouraged everyone to visit the Salvation Army Service Center for great buys on clothing, furniture, household goods and miscellaneous items.
