Denton Messick

It is with great sadness that the family of Denton Messick announces his passing after a brief illness, on Monday, January 21 at the age of 97 years. A native of Shellhorn, Mr. Messick died peacefully in his home in Troy with his wife and children by his side.

As a veteran who served honorably in World War II, he was recently honored by the UDC Crosses of Military Services for his steadfast service. Mr. Messick will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 26 years, Billie Ann; his children, Denton Messick, Jr. (Lucy), Ruth Hooks (John), Beth Cain (Louis); and his grandchildren, Amy Miller, Tara Grant, Danielle Yancey, Denise Cain, Melissa Cain, Laura Cain, and Brandon Cain.

Mr. Messick is predeceased by his first wife, Clara, and his brothers and sisters, Horace, Johnny, Woodrow, Margie, and Margaret.

Serving as pallbearers are Brandon Cain, Wes Grant, John Hooks, Michael Redmon, Denton Messick, Jr., and Charles Nunnelee.

A funeral Service in memory of Mr. Messick will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Troy with the Rev. Wayne Locklar and Rev. Perry Green officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot at Green Hills Memorial Park with Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2019, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy.
