Catherine Jordan, complex director, said the annual Mari Gras Gala fundraiser for the senior complex is highly anticipated each year because it is an opportunity for the community to come together for a night of unbridled fun.

“The Mardi Gras Gala is an opportunity to dress in costumes or fancy attire and enjoy a night of music, dancing, some of the best Cajun food you’ll ever eat and the fellowship of friends and neighbors in a festive setting.”

Jordan said the Mardi Gras Gala has been the senior center’s largest fundraiser for several years.

“The gala was started by Mary Ann Casey when she was the director of the Colley Senior Complex,” Jordan said. ‘The funds raised each year help make it possible for our seniors to travel, explore, dine and be creative with their artistic skills. We appreciate the support of our community and look forward to another successful gala in 2019.”

Jordan said there will be several new twists to the 2019 Mardi Gras Gala including an even more lavishing array of Cajun foods.

“We all enjoy eating and this year’s food selection will be amazing,” she said. “The gala will feature the taste of New Orleans but those that do not like Cajun food will have chicken, baked oysters, shrimp, grits, black-eye peas, some of everything to choose from. And, we’ll have beignets and coffee and chocolate chip muffins and bread pudding to die for. You won’t leave hungry.”

The band for the night’s entertainment will be City Heat, a show band from Atlanta.

“City Heat was at our gala two years ago and they are back by popular demand,” Jordan said. “City Heat is a high energy, 12-member band that features three vocalists and the best musicians you will ever hear.”

The Mardi Gras Gala will also feature a draw-down for $12,000.

“We have increased the amount of the draw-down from $10,000 to generate even more interest, Jordan said. “Tables are also entered in the drawing so everybody that attends the gala has a chance to be a winner. This year’s gala will be one of the best ever. So, reserve your table now so you will be a part of this exciting and fun gala and also support the programs offered to our seniors at the Colley Senior Complex.”
