Southside Baptist Church will once again open its doors on Christmas Day to provide lunch to people who may not have anywhere else to go on the holiday.
“If you’ve ever been alone on a holiday it is not fun,” said Elaine McLeod, who oversees the lunch. “It is something we don’t want anybody to do; this is what we need to do as Christians.
“Being alone can be devastating at any time, but especially around the holidays when families and friends traditionally come together,” McLeod said. “For those that are alone, Christmas is the loneliest time of the year. “This lunch is for those who won’t have family or friends with them on Christmas Day. It’s for the homeless. It’s for families that aren’t financially able to have a Christmas meal. It’s for anyone who wants to have others around them on Christmas Day.”
McLeod said the church will be serving turkey, ham, dressing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and more.
The lunch will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the fellowship hall. Southside Baptist Church is located at 522 S. Brundidge St. For more information, call Elaine McLeod at 334-465-0067.
