Continental Cinemas offered a very special deal Tuesday night: brings two cans of non-perishable food and get free entry to see Miracle on 34th Street.
The food, of course, was not for the theater but for the Salvation Army.
Theater owner Chase Taylor said this is something the business has been doing for nearly 20 years.
“It’s pretty simple; it’s just a great thing to do,” Taylor said. “There’s a need and we’re just trying to fill that need and make our community a better place.”
Local musicians were even invited to come down and perform to draw in more of a crowd to bring in as much food as possible.
The showing of the Christmas classic was the first of two events to collect food for the Salvation Army.
The theater will also be holding its annual Christmas showing of The Polar Express for the whole family Thursday morning for the same entry fee of two cans of nonperishable food.
In addition to the movie, Santa will also be stopping by the theater to greet the kids and all children will receive a special Christmas sleigh bell following the showing of the film.
