The Troy Board of Education made a few changes to policy Monday night to stay in line with changing federal policies.

The board unanimously approved changes to the district wellness policy, charged meals policy and worthless check policy.

Dr. Lee Hicks, superintendent, said the policy changes were to match the letter of the federal law and that this is a regular action the board has to take to keep everything in line.

Board member Roxie Kitchens asked Hicks about one part of the meal policy that says students who have charged meals for a week will be given “alternate meals.”

“We work with our students,” Hicks said. “Most of the issues occur with students getting items a la carte. This would just mean they get more of the basic meal with meat and sides. It’s not bread and water. Nobody is going to go without breakfast or lunch.”

In personnel action, the board:

  • Approved the resignation of Orlando Buck as an in-school support aide at Troy Elementary School effective December 31
  • Approved the resignation of Courtney Lee as library aide at Troy Elementary School
