The Pioneer Museum of Alabama will celebrate the coming of Christmas with Ole Time Christmas 2018 from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, December 14 and 15.

Barbara Tatom, museum director, said everyone is invited to come to Ole Time Christmas and make lasting memories.

“Ole Time Christmas 2018 is a tradition-filled event with colorful decorations, holiday treats, storytelling, ornament making, Christmas music, Santa Claus and lots of holiday fun,” Tatom said.

Featured events of Ole Time Christmas include storytelling in the Little Red School House with noted storyteller Karen Wanamaker and activities for children on the museum grounds.

“We will have marshmallow snacks in the Demonstration Cabin and Santa Claus will visit with the children in the museum’s main building,” Tatom said.

Special music will be featured in the main building. Kat Deal will performer Christmas, country and classic rock music on Friday night. On Saturday night, the Montgomery Dulcimer Players will play from 6 until 7 p.m.

In addition to the activities of Ole Time Christmas, the Pioneer Museum will host two special events.

The year 2018 is the second year of Alabama’s three-year Bicentennial celebration and has been designated as a time to honor Alabama’s people.

Tatom said the Pioneer Museum of Alabama will take the opportunity to posthumously honor two outstanding contributors to the museum, Dr. Eloise Kirk and Billy Gibson from 5:30 until 6 p.m. on December 15.

“The museum will honor the extraordinary commitment and overall support Dr. Kirk and Mr. Gibson contributed to sustaining the success of the museum,” Tatom said. “We invite the families and friends to join us as these two well deserving people are inducted into the Pioneer Museum of Alabama’s Hall of Honor for 2018.”

Another special event of Ole Time Christmas will be the Ole Time Car Show 2018 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 15.

“Everyone is invited to ring in the holiday with a different kind of fun,” Tatom said. “The Ole Time Car Show, coordinated by Ben Smith, will feature restored antique automobiles. Those who attend will experience the nostalgia of automobiles that have been carefully restored to their original beauty.”

Registration for the Ole Time Car Show begins at 9 a.m. A registration fee is charged.

Admission to Ole Time Christmas is $10 for adults and $9 for seniors and military. Children ages five and under are admitted free.
