All cookie lovers in particular and those who generally love sweets are invited to the Giant Cookie Sale at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Troy Saturday, December 8. The hours are from 8 a.m. until noon.

Dianna Lee, cookie coordinator, said the Giant Cookie sale is that and more.

Some of the best cooks in the county have donned their aprons and pre-set their ovens in preparation for the annual Giant Cookie Sale.

“The Giant Cookie sale will have every cookie you can imagine,” Lee said. “And we’ll also have homemade candies, cakes, pies and breads.”

Lee said the way the Giant Cookie Sale works is that “customers” are given a plastic glove and Styrofoam box and then choose the cookies they want and place them it the box.

“You can choose all of one cookie or mix and match,” Lee said. “The cookie box will be weighed and you’ll pay $6 a pound for some of the best homemade cookies you’ll ever eat.”

The other sweets and breads are priced separately but reasonably for home baked items.

The Giant Cookie Sale is an annual fundraiser for the Pike County Habitat for Humanity.

Lee said the Giant Cookie Sale is a great place to purchase sweet treats for the holidays.

“All the items can be eaten fresh from the box or frozen for later,” she said. “The support of the Giant Cookie Sale is greatly appreciated and the proceeds benefit people in need in our community.

St. Martin of Tours has been sponsoring the Giant Cookie Sale for more than 15 years. All of proceeds from the Giant Cookie Sale benefit the Pike County Habitat for Humanity that builds homes for people in need throughout Pike County.

“Pike County Habitat for Humanity has built 18 homes throughout the county,” Lee said. “The applicants go through a thorough application process and, if they qualify for the non-interest loans, the have to pay the mortgage and put in sweat-equity in their home but also in the next Habitat home.”

Lee said Habitat for Humanity provides homes for those would otherwise not be able to have a home of their own.

“The Giant Cookie Sale is primary fundraiser for Pike County Habitat for Humanity. Donations to Habitat come from individuals, businesses and corporations. All donations are greatly appreciated as is the support for the Giant Cookie Sale.
