Students at Charles Henderson High School will have a couple of new opportunities to prepare for a career while in the classroom in the spring of 2019.

The high school will be partnering with Enterprise State Community College to offer courses in emergency medical services and aviation technology to students to get free training in the fields.

“It’s one of those things where our goal is to help all students find their place during their high school career,” said Dr. Brock Kelley, principal. “Not all students know what they’re going to do right after high school; We want to offer as many things as possible to our students; these are two things our students have expressed interest in and we have worked out with Enterprise State to be able to offer these courses to our students.”

The emergency medical services course will be offered to seniors, who will be able to earn a certificate through the program and be job-ready coming out of high school. The aviation technology course will be accessible for sophomore students and would conclude with courses in the senior year at Enterprise State’s Ozark campus.

“We want our students when they graduate high school, they’re ready to be employed,” Kelley said. “Our ultimate goal is to create partnerships with businesses around the community and build a pipeline so that when students walk across the stage, they can walk right into jobs in Troy and be productive members of our community.”

Kelley said the school is also planning to bring back agriculture classes as well as a partnership with auto mechanics or dealerships to prepare students for that industry as well.
