By popular demand, Grammy nominee Josh Goforth will be in concert at the annual Chili Country Christmas at the We Piddle Around Theater in Brundidge on December 14 and 15.
“Josh has been featured at the Pike Piddlers Storytelling Festival several times and people have said they would come ‘just” to hear him,” said Cathie Steed, theater ticket chair. “So, it will be “Just Josh” at Chili Country Christmas this year.
Tickets are $20 and include the pre-show, a chili supper with dessert and the performance by Josh Goforth who is from a place called Sodom in the mountains of Western North Carolina. For tickets call 334-685-5524.
Goforth is a highly acclaimed traditional musician and one of the finest fiddle, banjo and guitar players in the country,” Steed said. “He is a master at combining stories and music.
He has performed in every state except Hawaii, at the Grand Ole Opry, Carnegie Hall and across “the big pond” in Europe and Japan.
“Wherever Josh goes he has audiences stomping and clapping to his old-time fiddling and then strolling down memory lane with his stories of his grandpa and his own young life,” Steed said.
The first time Goforth was at the Pike Piddlers Storytelling Festival, he captured the audience with his stories and music. In closing, he stepped away from the microphone and sang an Appalachian ballad a cappella.
“You could have heard a pin drop in the Trojan Center Theater,” Steed said. “The audience came to its feet with an extended ovation. A lady, with tears in her eyes, said she had never experienced anything so moving. Josh Goforth is just that kind of performer. He is simply amazing.”
Steed said there is no better way to get into the Christmas spirit than to sit down to a bowl of hot chili on a chilly winter night and enjoy the songs of stories of the Christmas season.
“Josh will bring both the merriment and warmth of Christmas to the stage,” she said. “At each Chili Country Christmas, it is the desire of our historical society to bring renewed awareness to the real reason for the season. And, who better than Josh Goforth?”
