In conjunction with American Education Week, the Pike County Education Retirees Association is taking a leadership role in developing activities for “Retired Teachers’ Day.” Events planned for Tuesday, November 13, include a tea for all Pike County Education retirees from Goshen, Banks and Brundidge from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Center for Academic Excellence on Mockingbird Lane.

A tea for Troy City School educators (including custodians, dieticians, bus drivers, etc.) will be held Thursday, November 15, at the City Board office on Elba Highway from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Recognizing the contributions retired educators have made, the Alabama Legislature passed Act No. 90-183 to honor Alabama’s education retirees. The joint resolution sets aside the Tuesday of American Education Week each year for the recognition of the state retired education personnel.

“Everyone’s life has been enriched by a retired educator, said Jean Sasser, president of the PCERA. “Evin our retirement years, retired educators continue to touch the lives those around us by volunteering in the community at the local food bank, local schools, nursing home, working the polls, Relay for Life and more.”
