New monument to honor local fallen Vietnam vets

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 607 – Central Alabama will dedicate and unveil a monument at Bicentennial Park in Troy Monday to honor the fallen heroes of Pike, Barbour, Butler, Henry and Crenshaw counties who gave their lives in the Vietnam War.

The monument will list the names of 26 young men from these counties who paid the ultimate sacrifice and died in Vietnam. We would like to invite their families and the general public to join us as we honor these fallen heroes at 11 a.m. at Bicentennial Park. The ceremony will include presentations from the American Legion, Post 70 of Troy and the City of Troy, without whose assistance this monument would not be possible. The Bicentennial Park is located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 231 and Alabama Highway 87 in Troy.
