The Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library in Brundidge hosted its first Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest this Halloween with staff member Garneshia Lampley as the coordinator.

“Friends of Tupper” voted on the pumpkins to determine which pumpkin would win the first-place movie gift basket.

When all the votes were cast, first place was awarded to Andrea Pack and her family for their Monster in “There’s a Monster in Your Book.”

Taking second place were Temeka Teague and her family for Papa Smurf from “The Smurfs.”

Third place went to Payton Adams and family for Clifford from “Clifford ABC.”

The contest challenged readers of all ages to decorate a pumpkin using a book character to bring the “once a yellow pumpkin” to life.

“There were six participants and all did an amazing job,” Lampley said, adding that the participants followed the rules to a tee. “There could be no carving or puncturing of the pumpkins and all pumpkins had to be decorated in a tasteful way. Each entry had to be either accompanied by the book used for the character or by a photo of the book.”

Lampley said those who participated had a lot of fun and the pumpkins have been enjoyed by the many who have visited the Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library.

The Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest will be an annual event at the library and Lampley expects even more participation in 2019.
