Candidates ramp up spending ahead of election

With just one week left until Election Day, both candidates for the District 89 seat in the Alabama House of Representatives have been making a final push to campaign to voters.

Republican nominee Wes Allen and Democratic nominee Joel Williams have spent over $55,000 combined through October 26.

In the first 12 days of October, Allen brought in $24,000 and spent $10,200.

Allen received contributions of $2,500 from ABA PAC, $1,500 from Bank PAC, $150 from David and Lauren Cole, $2,500 from NHS Management LLC, $25 from Jesse and April Wilson, $2,000 from Automobile Dealers Association of Alabama Inc PAC, $500 from Regions Financial Corps PAC, $25 from Linda Brantley, $500 from Crosby Company, $2,000 from FaxPAC, $100 from Geoffrey and Brenda McDuffie, $500 from Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, $500 from Advantage Realty, $2,500 from Alabama Realtors PAC, $2,500 from ALAPAC, $100 from J. Roy Bray, $100 from Bob Jones, $5,000 from Truk PAC, and $1,000 from Tyler Transport LLC. He also received an in-kind contribution valued at $25.52 from NFIB Alabama PAC.

Allen spent $9,800 to Virtus Solutions, $200 to Sports Chat with Neal and Wally and $200 to the Alabama High School Rodeo Association.

Allen raised another $9,525 from October 13 – 22 including contributions of $25 from Jesse and April Wilson, $500 from Alabama Commissioners United, $1,00 from Alabama Hospital Association PAC, $500 from Gulf Distributing Holdings, $500 from Alabama Cattlemen’s Association PAC, $2,500 from EduPAC, $1,000 from Southern Strategy Group PAC, $2,500 from Alabama Power Employees State PAC, and $1,000 from Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP Alabama State PAC.

He spent a total of $16,725 including $15,725 to Virtus Solutions Political Consulting LLC., $700 to Specialty Video, $200 to the Pike County Chamber of Commerce and $100 to Banks School.

Allen raised another $13,150 in the most recently reported week of fundraising and spent $3,100.

His contributions include $250 from Robert D. and Jayne P. Allen, $100 from Jason and Kellie Hubbard, $500 from Adams and Reese LLP, $200 from Robert and Mary Whaley, $10,000 from Progress PAC and $2,000 from VPAC. He also received an in-kind contribution valued at $475 from FarmPAC.

His expenditures were $100 to Sav-a-Life and $3,000 to Leverage Public Strategies.

Williams brought in $8,100 through the first 12 days of October and spent $2,150.

His contributions include $5,000 from Alabama Works PAC, $50 from Dr. Eugene Omasta, $250 from Chris Sanspree, $100 from Russell Williamson, $2,500 from the Democratic Victory Fund, and $200 from Dr. Curt Porter.

His expenditures were $2,000 to Jesse McDaniel and $150 to the Alabama Democratic Conference.

Williams raised a further $1,450 from October 13 – 22 including contributions of $100 from Jeff Knox, $500 from Harry Hall, $250 from Robert Cole, $100 from Neil Rafferty, $250 from Patrick Scarbrough, and $250 from Jim Spearman.

Williams spent $10,254 in that timeframe including expenditures of $9,994 to Troy Cablevision, $10 to the Pike County Chamber of Commerce and $250 to 590Films.

In the last week of fundraising, Williams brought in $1,800 in contributions and spent $3,961.42.

His contributions include $250 from Michael Davis, $1,000 from the State Employees Advocacy PAC, $100 from Michael Orlofsky, $250 from Darryl Caldwell, and $200 from Joe Sawyer.

His expenditures were $103.62 to Meredith Hatcher, $2,140 to WTBF, $499.80 to iHeart Radio, and $1,218 to Postcard Mania.
