Melinda Conner, Pike County United Appeal secretary, said the Master of the Grill will be a highlight of the event and a fundraiser for the county’s United Appeal.

Spaces for the Master of the Grill competition will be limited and filled on a first-come basis. The entry fee is $75 with three to a team. Charcoal and gas grills only.

“Each team will be asked to cook and sell six to eight slabs of ribs,” Conner said. “The ribs will be provided but the teams will provide the things they need to make them the masters of the grill.”

Judges will determine the Master of the Grill winning team, however the team with the highest dollar amount raised will also receive a prize, including a grill and cash.

Those who are up for the Master of the Grill challenge should mail the entry fee along with the team’s name, head cook, phone number, email address, city, state and zip and additional members to: Pike County United Appeal Cook-Off, P.O. Box 204, Troy, AL 36081.

Any questions about the Master of the Grill competition may be directed to Pete Jordan, (334) 398-1791 or pjordan@mymax.com.

As much fun as the Master of the Grill competition will provide, it is just one of many events and activities planned for the fundraising day, Conner said.

“On the grounds, there will be a petting zoo for the kids and a vintage car show for all ages to enjoy,” Conner said. “Inside the Cattlemen building, we will have a variety of vendors and lots of entertainment. And because the Pike County United Appeal’s Veteran’s Day event is on Saturday, we will have several large-screen televisions set up so football fans can watch their favorite teams.

Tickets for the event are $10 and will include entry in a drawing for $300 and three gift baskets.

Conner expressed appreciation for the longtime support Pike County has provided for the Pike County United Appeal.

“Again, we are asking for the county’s support of these local agencies that provide much needed services to the people of Pike County,” she said. “Please make plans now to attend our 2nd Annual Veteran’s Day event and see who is the Master of the Grill.”
