The Brundidge community is coming together to pay tribute to Pike County farmers with a harvest-time supper in their honor at Brundidge Station in downtown Brundidge on Monday night.
The Brundidge Historical Society, Troy Bank & Trust and the Brundidge Business Association will host the event and all farmers with hands to the plow are invited.
Lawrence Bowden, president of the historical group, said the Farmers’ Appreciation Supper is an event of the 27th Annual Peanut Butter Festival week and also of the three-year celebration of the Alabama Bicentennial, which is highlighting its people in 2018.
“I don’t know of any group of people more deserving to be honored than our farmers,” Bowden said.
No formal invitations are being sent but all row crop farmers and their spouses are invited. Calling ahead is not necessary but helpful in planning the supper that will be provided by TB&T. The number to call is 334-735-9192.
Dixie Shehane, SVP/Branch Manager TB&T, said. Farming feeds Alabama, just as it does all of America.
“We are so blessed to have farm families that provide us with affordable food products,” she said. “Thanks to our American farmers, we spend just 10 percent of our disposable income on food each year.”
Gathering for the Farmers Appreciation Supper will be at 6 p.m. with supper to follow. Entertainment that has been especially planned with farmers in mind will be provided by the Brundidge Historical Society.
