Former Alabama running back Siran Stacy will be in Troy Saturday, October 20, to deliver a message of hope and raise support for Sav-a-Life Troy.

A second-team All-American running back during his two years with the Tide from (1989 – 1991), Stacy’s life was forever changed on Nov. 19, 2009 when his wife and four of his children died in a head-on collision with another driver.

“The other driver was drunk ; he had consumed twice the legal limit,” Stacy said. “Lives were lost that night. It became a situation that I had no control over. It was just a terrible and life-changing event.” Stacy and one of his daughters survived the collision.

A year later, Stacy decided to go into ministry and share his message of faith and hope.

“Every time I go out and speak, whether at a church, high school or business, I spend time praying about the message to deliver that night,” Stacy said. “I want to give a message that inspires people to live better lives, productive lives; to live in a way that their life is purposeful, not to allow life’s circumstances that are negative to prevent them from living a purposeful life. That’s what my life is. My life is a testament to never giving up, to believing in purpose.”

Sirran Wilkes, community marketing director for Sav-a-Life, said she had the fortune of meeting Stacy while they both lived in the Florida panhandle.

“I thought ‘Man, it would be awesome if I could get him to come and speak for Sav-a-Life,’” Wilkes said. “We prayed about it and I presented it to the board and they were really excited about it. The initial thought was for him to come and speak at our annual dinner and auction, but some board members made the suggestion that we do a separate fundraise if possible.”

“It is a rare privilege to have Siran to visit Troy and speak,” said Jane Ward, executive director. “We just want everybody to come out and enjoy an evening of heart-to-heart ministry from someone who knows first-hand the highs and lows of life.”

Tickets are available now at savalifetroy.org or physical tickets can be picked up at the pregnancy resource center. Tickets are $20 a piece for individuals, $17 each for students and a reservation for 10 people is $150. Stacy will speak at 6 p.m. in the gymnasium at the Troy Recreation Center on Saturday, October 20.
