As the fall season arrives, the City of Troy has planned several events to get residents in the spirit of the season.

A Halloween movie night, a Troy Football watch party, Pumpkins Around the Square and a Downtown Cruise-In have all been scheduled for the month of October.

“We will be showing Hocus Pocus on Friday, October 19,” said Leigh Anne Windham with the City of Troy. “Our downtown movie nights have definitely been a hit. Up until now, we have only shown G rated movies. We decided to go with a more ‘grown up’ friendly movie to do a little something fun for our college kids and adult community in celebration of Halloween. Hocus Pocus is rated PG, so it will also be appropriate for older kids.”

Then on Tuesday, October 23, Trojan fans are invited to gather around the big screen again to watch Troy take on rivals South Alabama in Mobile.

“Everyone has a great time at the downtown watch parties,” Windham said. “It is a such a great experience to come together with a large group of Troy fans and watch the game together.”

Troy will host its second-ever Cruise-In on Saturday, October 27, after a successful showing in the summer.

“We hosted our first-ever Downtown Cruise-In back in June,” Windham said. “We were so excited about the participation. We had 30 vehicles on display on the Square. There was such a great crowd that came out to check out the vehicles and visit with their owners.”

The Cruise-in will go from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Local musician Lenny Trawick will perform during the day and there will be an open mic in the evening. Anyone interested in participating in the Cruise-In or open mic can call 334-674-2468.

The annual Pumpkins Around the Square will be on Friday, October 26 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

“This is such a fun, safe Halloween event,” Windham said. “Most of our downtown businesses will be set up outside on the sidewalk to trick-or-treat with the kids. We will also have other businesses and organizations set up on the square with fun activities and treats.”

The Messenger will once again set up in the gazebo with the Kids in Costume photo booth.

Downtown bingo nights will continue in October on Thursday, October 11, and Thursday, October 25 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
