Patrick Thomas Smith

Patrick Smith, 81, of Florala, passed away September 10, 2018. He was born November 25, 1936 in Butte, Nebraska, to Thomas Smith and Nora Omey Smith. Patrick proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was an avid outdoorsman spending countless hour in the lakes, ponds, rivers, fields and woods catching all kinds of fish and chasing whitetail deer. Oftentimes you could find him on Saturday afternoons watching NASCAR and Alabama football. Patrick was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and brother. He was an active member of Lockhart Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Weeks Smith; son, Troy Smith; father, Thomas Smith; mother, Nora Omey Smith; brothers, Robert, Ronald and James Smith; sisters, Norma Jean Ontengeo and Kathryn Noel.

He is survived by his daughters, Tracey Phillips and her husband Darrell of Yakima, Washington; Deborah Loyd and her husband David Runyon of Troy; and Juanita Taylor of Florala; son Chip Loyd of Angier, North Carolina; sisters, Mary Agnes Tenaglia and her husband Donald of New York, and Marilyn Seifert of Jensen Beach, Florida; brothers, Lyle Smith of Deer Park, Washington, and Richard Smith of Yakima; grandchildren, John Phillips(Brenda) of Spokane, Washington; Mandy Phillips of Yakima, Amy Beretta of Chandler, Arizona, Chris Loyd (Jennifer) of Wisconsin, John Loyd of Angier, Josh Kimbril of Andalusia, and Nichole Weeks of Andalusia; great-grandchildren, Julian Graham of Troy, Benjamin and Madalyn Loyd of Wisconsin, Grant and Ian Kimbril of Andalusia, Lawson Weeks of Andalusia, Jadan and Jaxon Phillips of Yakima,  and Sean Phillips of Yakima. He relished being their Grandpa. He is also survived by Jenifer and Caleb Davidson, his neighbors whom he loved and depended on, and his beloved dog, Liza. The Smith family would like to thank Southern Comfort in Home Care, especially AJ and Amy, and Comfort Care Hospice and his caregivers, Mary and Laken.

A family gathering to remember and celebrate Patrick Smith’s life will be at his home in Florala at 2128 Caton Road at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2018, with John Bryn officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Patrick can be made to Cancer Freeze, P.O. Box 92, Florala Al 36442.
