John Ray Flora

John Ray Flora, born May 3, 1931 to the late Ray and Helen Barton Flora, and husband of Dottie Bean Flora for 59 years, passed away Friday, September 7, 2018. He graduated from Carlisle High School and served 10 years in the Kentucky National Guard and Kentucky State Police for four years. He lived in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida from 1960-1975, was equipment Superintendent for Nat Harrison Construction and served as a deacon at First Christian Church. He moved to Troy and lived there for 30 years, where he was involved in heavy equipment sales and auctions. He retired as Auction Manager from J. M. Woods Auction Co. He was also a deacon at First United Methodist Church in Troy and was active in the Men’s Sunday School Class.

He returned to Kentucky in 2005. He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He was an avid golfer and mentor to young golfers. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter Katie (Tom) Wilkins; brother, Gary (Sylva) Flora; sister, Kay Flora; three nephews, Walter (Linda) Abbott, Mark (Nancy) Abbott and John (Debby)

Abbott; and two nieces, Kelli Abbott and Kimberly Sheldon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Abbott.

Services will he held Tuesday, September 11, 1 p.m. at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service.
