Troy man charged with 17 counts of sending obscene images to child

Police arrested a Troy man Monday on charges that he sent inappropriate images to a minor over social media.

Jason Malcolm McDonald, 29, has been charged with a total of 17 counts of transmitting obscene material to a child, a Class B Felony punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison.

Police Chief Randall Barr said the details of the case are sensitive due to the involvement of a minor.

However, he said police believe that McDonald may have sent inappropriate images to other children as well.

Police received a complaint about the alleged illegal activity on August 25 and arrested McDonald at approximately 2:20 p.m. Monday in the 100 block of County Road 5516 in Troy.

McDonald was booked into the Pike County Jail on bonds totaling $170,000.

Barr said this is still a very active and ongoing investigation.
