A man received burns to his hands and two firefighters suffered from heat exhaustion during a structure fire Saturday morning.

Firefighters responded to a three-story residence on Lakewood Drive at approximately 7 a.m. Saturday after a neighbor reported an occupant of the residence had knocked on his door and asked for help.

“The first fire units arrived on scene within five minutes of receiving the call and observed heavy smoke and flames visible from the west end of the residence,” said Troy Fire Chief Michael Stephens. “At the time of the fire the home was occupied by two civilians and three canines.”

The smokes and flames originated from a lower-level living area in the split-level residence.

“Crews were able to achieve a quick knockdown of the fire and gain control within five minutes of entry,” Stephens said. “The home received heavy fire damage in the area of origin, and heavy smoke damage throughout the entire structure”

The burn victim was treated at Troy Regional Medical Center and the firefighters were treated at the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Troy Fire Marshal.
