There’s a lot of good things going on right now at the Troy Athletics Department according to Deputy Director Brent Jones.

Jones, deputy director of external operations, said the sports programs at the university have had a lot of success in the 17 months he has been here since coming from Southern Miss.

“When I came here, we were conference champions in men’s and women’s basketball two days later,” Jones said.

Since then the department has seen unprecedented success, Jones said. Troy football had their best-ever Division I record, winning the Sun Belt Conference and scoring a victory over powerhouse program LSU on the road. Attendance records were set for the football and baseball teams and Jones said soccer, tennis, volleyball and other sports are also performing well.

During this run of success, Jones has been responsible for looking at ways to increase ticket sales, sponsorships, merchandising and more.

Jones said one huge boost for the football program will be the completion of the north end zone facility at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

“In about a week or so we’ll get approval for building occupancy,” Jones said.

The 72,000 square-foot facility includes a weight room, a players lounge, recruiting room and coaching offices among other things.

Jones said he was tasked with branding in the new space.

“We’re going to have a wall of champions,” Jones said. “Very few programs can point to having 23 conference championships. We’ll also have an NFL wall to show Trojans that went on to play professionally.”

While many colleges have put the NFL helmet above the players name, Jones said this wall will have Trojan helmets with NFL stickers on it.

“We’re Trojans one and all,” Jones said. “We wanted to really emphasize what we’re all about.”

The new facility will also include new seating options that Jones said will be a premium, including six outdoor climate-controlled tents that will provide a unique tailgating-in-stadium experience that cannot be found anywhere else.
