Local man found dead in Georgia river

A Troy man was found dead in the Chattahoochee River Friday while on a visit to Helen, Georgia according to the Georgia Bureau of investigation.

A release from the GBI states that the body of Gary Phillip Freeman, 42, was discovered by a tourist visiting the area at approximately 10:30 a.m. Friday

Nelly Miles, GBI spokesperson, said preliminary autopsy results indicate that Freeman died of drowning, but more testing is yet to be done.

The investigation into Freeman’s death is ongoing.
