Customer service. It all starts with you.

That’s the premise of the Customer Service Workshop that will be hosted by the City of Troy Public Relations and Tourism Office from 10 a.m. until noon on Wednesday.

Shelia Jackson, Public Relations and Tourism director, said Wednesday’s Customer Service Workshop is the second to be hosted by the City of Troy and plans are for the workshop to be an annual event.

“Customers service is the most important part of what we do at the City of Troy and the most important part of any business,” Jackson said. “So the City of Troy is opening the 2018 Customer Service Workshop to all businesses that provide assistance and advice to those people that buy or use their products or services. It’s also open to members of the community who are interested in ways to meet and interact with others in business and/or social situations.”

The Customer Service Workshop is being offered free to the community.

The speaker and facilitator for the workshop will be WSFA personality and Troy native Tonya Terry.

“Tonya was our speaker last year and the feedback that we got was very positive,” Jackson said. “Tonya knows how to meet the public. She engages people. She meets everyone with a smile and you just naturally feel at ease around her. Tonya will share many of her experiences in working with the public and we will all be able to learn from them.”

Terry said 2018 Customer Service Workshop will be designed to meet each participate where they are and build from there.
“We did receive very positive feedback after last year’s workshop and I hope to see a lot of those people back again,” Terry said. “People are all different. We have different personalities and different abilities. We meet people in different ways.”

Terry said even though people are different, their interaction with the public can be positive.

“At the workshop, we’ll all start with a clean slate,” she said. “We will learn how to grow and improve so that we may be more effective in our interaction with customers and with our co-workers.”

No matter where one works, whether it’s in customer service or in a cubicle, the same principles apply when it comes to putting a smile on another’s face.

Terry will use games and team building opportunities to make the Customer Service Workshop a most enjoyable and beneficial event for all participants.
