The 2018 DAP Festival di Danza a Pietrasanta will be alive with string music.
In addition to the three sections of the DAP Dance and to the musical selection, the DAP Festival has announced two weeks of classes for classical guitarists.
Troy University’s Dr. Robert Gibson will lead one week of students and five Troy University students will participate in the music project.
At 7 p.m. Thursday, Gibson and his students will be in concert at the Johnson Center for the Arts. Admission is $5 and all proceeds will assist the students in raising the funds to study in Italy.
“Dr. Gibson is a very accomplished guitarist and this is an opportunity to hear him and his students in concert,” said Wiley White, JCA exhibition coordinator. “The JCA is a wonderful venue for a concert that features classical guitarists. We invite the community to enjoy the concert and support these very talented guitarists.”
Gibson said the concert will feature the quintet of guitarists and each will also play a solo piece.
Gibson and Rachel Nozny, also a Troy University music faculty member, will combine their talents in several duo pieces.
“We are excited to have this opportunity to perform at the Johnson Center for the Arts and for the community,” Gibson said. “And, we are looking forward to be a part of the DAP Festival and the opportunity to travel in Italy. This is a tremendous opportunity for these five classical guitar students. Not only will they perform at the festival, they will also study guitar abroad. This is a wonderful opportunity for all of us.”
In addition to attendance at the Thursday night concert, donations may also be made in support of the travel/performance/study opportunity for the classical guitarists.
Checks may be made to the Troy University Foundation/memo Guitar Study Abroad.
The Johnson Center for the Arts is at 300 East Walnut Street in downtown Troy.
