Troy hosts in-state rival South Alabama

The Troy softball tam (27-17, 11-7 SBC), returns to action on Wednesday as it plays host to in-state foe South Alabama (22-21, 7-10) for the first game of a split three-game series. Games two and three will be played in Mobile on May 6. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at the Troy Softball Complex.

Troy enters the midweek sitting third in the conference following two huge series sweeps over Appalachian State, and most recently, Coastal Carolina. With the two sweeps and a midweek win over UAB, the Trojans are riding a seven-game win streak, their longest since February of 2017.

The bats have come alive for the Trojans, led by Logan Calhoun and Katie Webb with 52 and 51 hits, respectively. Seven Trojans have hit multiple home runs this season with Webb, Kaylee Hussey and Stephanie Snyder with five each.

Defensively, behind impressive pitching from Annie Willis and Peyton Glover, Troy remains in the top-20 nationally with a .985 fielding percentage and the Trojans are tied for 14th in double plays per game with .50, turning 22 double plays in 44 games. Troy recorded a season-high and league-high three double plays in the final game of the series against Coastal Carolina.

South Alabama makes the trip at 22-21 overall and eighth in the Sun Belt with a 7-10 record. Kaleigh Todd leads the Jaguars with .375 at the plate with 51 hits and 26 runs. Devin Brown leads the pitching staff with a 2.03 ERA and 164 strikeouts.
