Beginning Monday, March 12, the portion of John M. Long Avenue between East Street to Hawkins Hall is closed for the installation of sewer and drain connections for the Trojan Fitness Center currently under construction according to Troy University officials.
Motorists can access John M. Long Avenue from George Wallace Drive via Pell Avenue, or from University Avenue via Folmar Street.
The portion of the road will reopen once work has been completed, but no definite date for reopening has been set.
The 78,000-square-foot facility will be located in the area that formerly served as the Sartain Hall parking lot, near George Wallace Drive.
Construction is expected to take 18 months on the facility, which is funded by a $100 per semester ($50 for the summer) student recreation fee recommended by Student Government Association and implemented in Fall 2016.
