Police: ‘Body’ found on roadside was extremely intoxicated woman

Troy police say  a body found on the side of the road on the night of Thursday, Jan. 25, was merely an “extremely intoxicated” woman.

Troy Police Chief Randall Barr said a driver passing through the city Thursday called and reported a body wrapped in a sheet on the side of U.S. Highway 231 near County Road 5520.

“It was called out as a ‘man down,’” Barr said. “That’s typical when somebody is just seen down. That’s how they usually dispatch it and that’s the correct way to dispatch it. But that could be somebody passed out, or if somebody was asleep they might look like they were dead.”

When police responded to the scene, Barr said that’s what they found: a woman very much alive, although intoxicated, wrapped in a sheet lying by the roadside.

Barr said the woman was there as the result of a domestic dispute, put out by the roadside by a boyfriend.

No charges were filed in the incident, Barr said, but the woman was transported to the emergency room due to her level of intoxication.
