Ellen M. Roling, 89, of Troy, Alabama, died Tuesday, December 12, 2017, in Valdosta, Georgia. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 15, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Troy with Dr. Luke Lane and Rev. Mack Lowery officiating and Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A private family graveside service will be held at a later time.
Mrs. Roling taught school for 30 years in Troy and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Troy choir. She graduated with a major in Education and a minor in Music from Troy State University. She was a graduate of the Troy High School class of 1946.
She is survived by her son, Keith Roling of Orion; her daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Bill Holland of Valdosta, Georgia; granddaughters, Elizabeth Holland Graves (Benton) and Haley Jane Holland; grandson, William Holland; sister-in-law, Margaret Roling Griffin of Selma; and nieces and nephews: Denise Griffin Young, Dale Griffin Scoggins, Jenny Miller Kasten, David Griffin, and Craig Miller.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C.F. Roling; her parents, U.L. and Elizabeth Marie Miller; three brothers: Wendell Miller, Maurice Miller, and Edward Ewell Miller; and two sisters, Gladys Grant and Beatrice Miller McDowell.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Bentley, Steve Flowers, Scott Flowers, David Griffin, Art Scoggins, and Charles Rawls.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Colley Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church of Troy, Evelyn and Carvell Anderson, Virginia Bush, Clem Carpenter, Mert Thompson, Aline Snyder, Jo Harvell, Louise and Randolph Johnston, Sara Lee and Donal Dunbar, Veryl and Gwen Lassiter, Dr. John and Mary Lynn Long, Sylvia Lowery, Betty Riddle, Jane and Alec Whaley, Nell Fowler, Edna Pinckard, and Dr. Mickey Dichiara.
