Muriel Sievewright Green Grantland

Muriel Sievewright Green Grantland, 85, of Troy, Ala., and formerly of Vicksburg, Miss., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, in Troy.

Known to many as “G.G.”, Ms. Grantland was born Jan. 12, 1932, in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of John and Annie S. Green. She was a graduate of Audubon (N.J.) High School and lived in Glassboro, N.J., working as an administrative assistant at Campbell Soup Co., before moving to Gautier, Miss., in 1968. She retired from a career in office management at Ingalls Shipbuilding and had been active in numerous organizations in Pascagoula and Gautier.

She moved to Vicksburg in 2005, where she became a member of Gibson Methodist Church and Hawkins Methodist Church and was an active volunteer with Merit Health River Region Health System. She moved to Troy in early 2017 and attended St. Martin of Tours Catholic Parish.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Jessie Green Snyder; two brothers-in-law, Bud Snyder and Mickey Minyon; and her former husband, George L. Grantland Jr.

Survivors include three daughters, Dr. Geri (Mike) Weiland of Vicksburg, Linda Harris of Buckeye, Arizona, and Stacy Graning of Troy; five grandsons, Dr. David (Courtney) Weiland of Durham, North Carolina; Seaman James Grantland Harris of Aurora, Colo., Sgt. Jonathan R. Harris of Colorado Springs, Colo., Thomas Graning of Oxford, Miss., and Wright Graning of Troy; one great-grandson, Charlie Weiland of Durham; a sister, Alice Green Minyon of Oaklyn, N.J.; a brother, John (Phyllis) Green of Collingswood, N.J.; and six nieces and one nephew.

A memorial service will be held January 5, 2018, at Gibson Methodist Church in Vicksburg. Details will be shared later.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Batson Children’s Hospital at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, c/o Friends of Children’s Hospital, 3900 Lakeland Drive, Suite 205, Flowood, Miss., 39232.
