Troy Public Library offers Halloween alternative

26The Troy Public Library is offering a Halloween alternative this year.
Not so much in the way one might think, said Teresa Colvin, TPL children’s librarian.
“What we are doing this year is offering children something different to do on Halloween night,” Colvin said. “Schools have fall festivals that are a lot fun. At the Troy Public Library we are hosting a different kind of Halloween fun time for ages through 11.”
On Halloween night, children through age five will be the focus of Halloween fun from 6 until 6:15 p.m.
“The children will be introduced to the delights of slightly scary stories at Monster Story Time,” Colvin said. “We’ll have a Halloween bag of games and activities for the children, including the Mummy Wrap, Bat Walk, Boo Toss, Mask Decorating, Spider Slingshot, the Headless Horseman and lots more fun things to do.”
Spooky music will set the mood for Halloween night and kids through age 11 will be invited to participate in the Halloween Costume Contest in the library’s programming room.
“Prizes will be awarded for the funniest costume, the best costume and the scariest costume,” Colvin said.
A candy jar will be filled with corn candy and it’s anybody’s guess as to how many candy corns are in the jar.
“The jar will be on the circulation desk and all little Halloween people are encouraged to take a guess,” Colvin said. “Who knows? You might win a sweet treat.”
The Halloween night festivities will end with a free candy grab for all kids.
“Make this Halloween extra fun. Spend it at the Troy Public Library,” Colvin said. “We’ll have stories and contests and all kinds of Halloween fun. We’re excited and look forward to spending Halloween night with all of our spooky friends.”
