Brundidge police seek perpetrator who stole vehicle, lit it on fire

Brundidge police are searching for the perpetrator of a vehicular theft and arson that occurred last Friday after the Pike County High School football game.

Brundidge Police Chief Moses Davenport said police found the vehicle, a black 2015 Nissan Altima belonging to Andrea Bailey of Brundidge, abandoned on County Road 4423 Friday.

“The vehicle had been torched,” Davenport said. “There was a faint smell of gasoline in the car. It appeared that gasoline had been doused on the seat and a napkin had been lit and thrown on the seat in an effort to burn the car. But, whoever committed this crime made a mistake in closing the car door. When all of the air in the car burned up, the fire went out. This was definitely arson.”

Davenport said forensic evidence could be available to aid the investigation. The crime remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact the Brundidge Police Station at 334-735-3333.
