Betty Laurie Hines Bateman, age 77, a longtime resident of Troy, Alabama, passed away August 17, 2017, at Enterprise Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Troy with Dr. Mallone Chandler and Dr. Luke Lane officiating. Mrs. Bateman will lie-in-state at the church one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be held Monday, August 21, 2017, from 4 -7 p.m. at Green Hills Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at 3 p.m. CST at Lake Mystic Baptist Church Cemetery in Bristol, Florida.

“Miss Betty” was the longstanding director of the Mother’s Day Out program at First Baptist Church, a cause to which she devoted years of passionate service. She was a member of First Baptist Church since her move to Troy in 1970.

Mrs. Bateman was preceded in death by her parents, Wilson W. and Laurie O. Hines; and her brother, Bill Hines. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, B.J. Bateman, Jr.; children, Christy Bateman and Geoffrey (Nickie) Bateman; grandchild, Alaina Bateman; sister, Marilou Summers; and many special church friends and neighbors. The family also wishes to extend their many thanks to caregivers, Geretha Jackson and Annie Ruth McInnis.
