Administrators at Pike Liberal Arts School are warning parents and supporters about a potential email scam.

“We’ve gotten a couple of calls so far,” warned Becky Baggett, headmaster. “They reported receiving an email invoice from the ‘PLA Sports Boosters’ that has a link to a website where they can go to make a payment.”

Baggett said while the email invoice includes the name “PLA Sports Boosters” it does not include any logo or information from the school.

“And besides, our Sports Boosters don’t send out any invoices,” she said. “We send all of those from our office.”

Baggett said school officials have reported the incidents to the Troy Police Department and sent email warnings to parents.

“But we also wanted to reach out and let people know that these appear to be some sort of scam,” she said. “If parents receive an electronic invoice, we want them to call the office and ask us about it.”

Pike Liberal Arts School is home to 500 pre-K through 12th grade students and more than 380 families.
