Imagine having so many clothing and shoe items that it takes a forklift to move them.

Imagine that the items are for people of all ages – boys and girls, men and women.

Imagine that the items will be distributed free simply for the asking.

But there’s no reason to imagine because the Christian Love Center in Troy is sponsoring a Day of Giving from 1 until 5 p.m. Friday at the Center 223 Segars Street and all items will be free.

“We have a huge amount of clothing items and so many shoes that we don’t have any place to display them all,” said Lawanda Bell, Christian Love Center youth coordinator. “Many items have been donated by Plato’s Closet and these are name brand items. We also have items that were donated locally. University students have been very generous in donating items for that age group. The community has also donated generously. The assortment is huge.”

Bell said the Day of Giving offers a large assortment of children’s clothing in all sizes.

“We have pants, jeans, shirts, dresses, jackets and sweaters that will be great for starting back to school,” she said. “And, we have every kind of shoe you can imagine from sneakers to dress shoes.”

The Day of Giving is not just for children and teens.

“There’s also a wide selection for men and women that includes uniforms and more formal wear,” Bell said. “We have large selection of men’s suits, about 30 of them. So the Day of Giving will be beneficial to all ages.”

Because the items are free and on a first-come basis, Bell said a limit could be placed on the number of bags per family.

“Our center director, Angeline Green, invites the community to come and see what we have to offer,” she said. “We encourage the community to take advantage of this opportunity to shop for free. Friday will be a big day at the Christian Love Center.”
