Trump’s tweets have opposite effects

I am sure you have heard media coverage recently of the current uproar that MSNBC has with President Trump. This is where Trump tweeted that the network’s morning talk show cohost, Mika Brzezinski, was singled out saying that when she & fiance’ Joe Scarborough visited Key Margo at his invitation in December, she was, “bleeding profusely from a very poor face lift surgery…” Reference was also made to her lack of intelligence. This outburst was apparently in response to a vicious attack on Trump by she & Scarborough earlier in the week.

While the fallout has been unprecedented from both parties, Trump appears unfazed by the criticism. Every network this week has featured this item as the lead story with MSNBC leading the charge.

This strange irony here is that this is the best thing that could have happened to MSNBC & Scarborough! Until this incident, both Joe and the network were down just about as far as they could drop in ratings. During 2016, Scarborough’s “Morning Joe Show” struggled at # 28 of all cable programs. In May of 2017, they had fallen to No. 47! They network dropped 23 percent of its market share of Primetime viewers during early 2017 and lost 39 percent of the market’s crucial age 19 to 28 age group!

Before this past week, many Americans had never heard of Morning Joe or MSNBC-with very few ever having watched the network. Now, by the twist of fate and the stumbled of President Trump, they are being talked about by every competing news organization and now are a household word. Scarborough could not have purchased this kind of publicity-at any price!

Isn’t it strange how things shake out? If Trump’s intention was to smear Mika Brzezinski, Joe Scarborough and MSNBC, he has ended up doing exactly the opposite and may very well have brought about the survival of the network and both hosts.
