John Presley Motes, age 101, of Mobile, AL, formerly of Goshen, died Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Providence Hospital.  Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 1:00 pm from the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Troy with the Reverends W.O. Sanders and Charles Lucas officiating.  Interment will follow in Elam Cemetrey with Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy.

Mr. Motes grew up in Goshen where he joined the army in lieu of finishing his high school education. After 6 years in the Army he joined the Army Air Corp where he advanced to Master Sergeant.

On May 25, 2017 he received his High School Diploma from Goshen High School. He was a member of the Troy Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner in the Alacazar chapter in Montgomery. He was a faithful follower of Christ and served at Luke 4:18 Fellowship in Mobile.

Mr. Motes is survived by his wife, Betty Motes; daughter, Judy Holmes (Ronnie); son, David Motes (Betty Jean); grandchildren, Ronnie Holmes, Chris Holmes, Tonya Gomillion, Michelle Motes, Melissa Motesand Kelly Motes; great grandchildren, Bradley Holmes, Bayleigh Holmes, Graysie Holmes, Lillie Holmes, Hunter Holmes, Holden Holmes, Savanna Holmes and great great grandchildren, Chloe Gomillion and Ian Motes.
