Ted Lindsey, 67, gained his angel wings in the early hours of Monday, May 15, 2017 in Troy, Alabama after a long, hard fought battle against lung cancer. Son of Johnnie B. Linzey and Katie Lucille Pedigo, Ted was born on May, 14 1950 in Troy, Alabama and grew up in a large family consisting of 11 other siblings which he loved dearly. In his early years, between 1967 and 1973, he served in the United States Army (RA INF, SP4) during the Vietnam War, earning two medals- National Defense Service and Armed Forces Expeditionary medals. After that, he pursued his love of artwork and became a self contracted painter, which he continued with for over 40 years. During that time, he loved two women- June Manning and Becky Kyser, both of which he loved very dearly and forever kept a special place in his heart. With June, he gained a beautiful step-daughter, Kim, and welcomed his only biological child Kasie into the world. With Becky, he also gained 4 more beloved step children- Lisa, Shelia, Sondra, and Connie. He was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2010 which resulted in surgery and multiple rounds of the strongest chemotherapy drug known to the field of medicine. He overcame that obstacle after struggles with sickness from the chemotherapy and was later dubbed cancer free. A few years later, after a stroke and multiple biopsies, he was diagnosed with stage 3B lung cancer. This time, chemotherapy and radiation were the only two options since the unfortunate placement and size of the tumor threw surgery completely out of the equation. After many long weeks of chemotherapy, and many weeks of radiation 5 days a week, hope was constantly building over the good news of the shrinking, inactive tumor. Within a short period of time, all of that changed. After fighting for his life, which he enjoyed so much, for many years and enduring so much pain, he finally lost his battle with the worst disease of all time. He has now been reunited with his parents, Johnnie B. Linzey and Katie Lucille Pedigo Linzey; Siblings: Nancy Anne Gearhart, Tommy Jerry Linzey, Tony Ray Linzey, Precious Arlene Sanchez, James Franklin Linzey; Brothers-in-law: Robert Sanchez, Norman Campbell, and granddaughter Lacie Edwards to walk the streets of gold, side by side, hand in hand, pain and worry free. Left behind to pick up the shattered pieces are his siblings: Lamonia Sue (Konrad) Kohler of Troy, Johnny Rex Lindsey of Phoenix, AZ, Patricia Lane (Ron) Case of Troy, Terry Lynn Linzey of Glendale, AZ, April Joy Campbell of Troy, Charles Nicholas (Joni) Linzey of Copperas Cove, TX; Daughter, Cassandra “Kasie” Lindsey; Step-Children: Kim (Jason) Wood of Goshen, Lisa (Bo Campbell) McCurdy of Jack, AL, Shelia (Jim) Reese of Highland Home, AL, Sondra (Charley Utley) Oconner of Troy, Connie (Gary) Brooks of Troy; Grandchildren: Jonathon Bundy, Karlie Bundy, Whitney Bundy, Robyn Edwards all of Troy; Brother-in-Law Frank Gearhart of Waco, TX, along with many other beloved nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, and close friends. Funeral Services for Mr. Lindsey will be held at 4:00pm on Thursday May 18, 2017 at Mt. Moriah Baptist church with sister Sharon Kirkland officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Moriah cemetery with Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing. Visitation for Mr. Lindsey will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday May 17, 2017 at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
