Bonita Crawford

Bonita Hetherington Crawford (Nita) went home to be with the Lord and reunited with her husband on Tuesday, April 11, 2017.  She was a vivacious and brilliant woman.  Along with her husband, Dr. WV Crawford, she ran a medical clinic in Crossville, AL for several years.  In addition to running the clinic, she was the food editor for the Sand Mountain Reporter, won the Best of Dessert Division of the Pillsbury Bakeoff, and raised three children.

When they moved to Birmingham for Bill to do further medical training, she was active in Toastmistress International and other civic organizations.  She was always active in her church.  She taught Bible studies and mentored many young wives and couples.  Always with a listening ear and a heart to serve, she was the touchstone for many generations.   Children, teens and young adults sought her counsel.

Gifted with artistry, she cooked and entertained with a flair that was second to none.  She would even devise a new set of dishes for a party, once she became involved in fused glass art.  Her parties were incredible, with fantastic creatures created from fruits and vegetables.

She leaves behind three siblings: Paul Weidman (Susan), Donna Monroe (Roger) , and Wanda Neville (Dean).  Her children are Dr. Wynne Crawford (Andy), Nilha Pearce (Richard), and Trent Crawford (Wanda).  Grandchildren are Chase Crawford, Courtney Pearce, Amber Lowery (Corey), Jon Crawford, and Elizabeth (Ellie) Crawford.  Her only great grandchild Bentley, carries on her beautiful red hair and infectious spirit.

No one who ever met her had any doubt of her love for Christ and her love of family.  No one who knew her will ever forget her grace, charm, rapid wit, and amazing culinary skills.

She will be missed, but we all love to think of her dancing for joy with her Bill in the presence of their Lord.

Her Celebration Homecoming will be held this Saturday, April 15th at the First Baptist Church in Troy, Alabama. Visitation at the church will start at noon and the Memorial Service will begin at 1:00.

The family would love to hear your stories of Nita at the service.

Graveside services will follow immediately at Green Hills Memorial Cemetery.

We know Nita would be thrilled if donations were made in her memory to Samaritan’s Purse, one of her favorite organizations.

The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Crawford family.
